PA’s Peter Siggins, mobile communications expert, has been quoted in the Financial Times The Connected Business special report. Peter gives his view on how the IT department should be managing their mobile workforce and comments on the growing trend for employees to bring their own mobile phones, tablet computers and laptops to work.
Peter says: "The conservative view of many IT departments is one of ‘safety first’, despite the clamour from employees to use their much-loved personal device."
"However, to open the corporate network to all and sundry, users need to recognise that some additional controls will need to be in place when corporate data are accessible through a personal mobile device."
Peter goes on to point out that employers and employees will need to agree on policies that mean the employer can remotely wipe a device of all corporate data if it is lost, stolen or the employee leaves the company.
