Deepak Bharathan, IT strategy expert at PA Consulting Group, discussed trend of software moving to the cloud, to an SaaS-based delivery model. He reviewed the cost savings, vendor competition and data privacy.
In an interview, Deepak said that the cloud saves companies money, and he cited reduced costs for infrastructure, upgrades and maintenance. He is quoted as saying, “The cloud can save companies anywhere from 20 per cent to 50 per cent on their technology expenses…With the cloud, the cost factor is the most important factor."
Deepak observed that competition among vendors will also keep costs low. He said in the article, “the market is so dynamic right now -- there are going to be many cloud vendors popping up, large and small, and there will be competition to keep prices down.”
On the topic of data privacy concerns, Deepak acknowledged that opponents of Cloud do have valid concerns about data privacy.
To allay those fears, Deepak said “I think what the vendors have to do is figure out how to provide cloud-based services in a way that those concerns are properly addressed."
