Change and innovation needed in the public sector

Mikkel pødenphant | ALTINGET.DK | 6 december 2016

PA innovation expert, Mikkel Pødenphant, has had a byline article published discussing the new Danish Ministry of Public Sector Innovation. According to Mikkel, the new ministry is facing a difficult task. The public sector needs to use new technology to be more efficient and take on a more innovative mindset.

Mikkel says: “The minister’s most important task is to ensure the right framework that enables public leaders to drive innovation and change, and to create sufficient pressure on the public authorities to push for this innovation.”

Mikkel continues: “It seems more difficult to create an environment for sustained innovation in the public sector compared to the private sector. A public sector leader must be able to navigate in a complex environment, managing political demands as well as those from authorities, employees, citizens and the business community."

Mikkel argues that the minister must ensure the public sector is able to handle these growing demands and continue to deliver services in a more cost-efficient manner.
