PA Consulting Group’s digital expertise has helped Rentokil Initial with Google win a 2016 UK BCS IT Industry Award for Best Internet of Things Project for the Year.
PA developed a Google cloud-based Internet of Things platform for Rentokil Initial’s connected Pest control business that collects real time data and send messages whenever traps need clearing or maintenance. That means they can monitor a customer’s location 24 hours a day and have immediate visibility on potential infestations before they get out of hand and potentially impact the customer’s business environment. Data about the working processes and data about the customer is collected, ensuring improved customer service.
Dan Rossner, IoT expert, PA Consulting Group said: “There has been a lot of hype around the potential of the Internet of Things in the market – and what we’ve created is a real, working solution that is helping grow Rentokil Initial’s connected business today. Our team worked in an agile way jointly with the Rentokil teams and Google to develop a cloud platform so Rentokil could handle the expanding volume of data they’re collecting. This was rolled out in 12 countries, within 12 weeks, handling up to 24 million messages a minute.
“We’re really proud to have worked with the Rentokil team on this project and delighted that they have won this award with the industry.”
Brad Kilshaw, Google's EMEA Head of Partnerships, said: "We are delighted with the fantastic recognition of this market changing project by our Strategic Partner, PA Consulting and impressed with the innovation delivered by both PA Consulting and Rentokil Initial."
Rentokil beat six other strong finalists in this category to scoop this award. The UK IT Industry Awards are one of the longest established and most prestigious awards of its kind. The awards focus on the contribution of individuals, projects, organisations and technologies that have excelled in the use, development and deployment of IoT in the past 12 months.
