In 2010 Genzyme was a leader in the biotechnology industry with operations in approximately 100 countries, and an innovative, patient-centric approach to challenging diseases with small patient populations. Genzyme was acquired by Sanofi in early 2011.
Before the acquisition, Genzyme made a strong play to remain independent with a firm-wide cost reduction program that benefited Genzyme either way. Their CIO embarked on a number of transformative changes under this program.
PA was engaged to develop an outsourcing strategy that identified over $20 million in recurring annual financial benefits, reduced operational risk, and enhanced service levels to improve the quality of service. Our team helped Genzyme go to market and negotiate with suppliers across three service bundles, while delivering over $1 million in savings during our engagement. We supported the change and integration effort and helped
prepare Genzyme IT for its integration with Sanofi.
Our client commended PA’s information technology and outsourcing capability. He said “PA built momentum and drove the project
forward, offered strong examples, and really produced. PA is good at managing discrete complex programs. Their team was down to earth, grounded, and smart.”
