NSB: Keeping parallel procurement processes on track

The NSB Group provides bus and rail services across Norway. Their contract with an external provider for developing and managing the IT applications it uses was due to expire. They use the applications for planning and implementing rolling stock maintenance. At the same time, they decided to outsource their IT system for payroll and other HR processes. They decided they wanted the service provided over the cloud from a third party rather than in house: a ‘Software as a Service’ (SaaS) model. It was the first time they’d taken this approach.

They asked us to help manage both procurement processes. This was particularly demanding because of the very tight timelines and fixed milestones. We supported NSB through the full procurement process: from the bidding stage by drafting the RFP, then conducting negotiations with potential providers through to advising on the final decision. 

NSB renewed the applications services contract with the existing provider but with much better terms. It brings significant cost savings and improved governance and delivery - all reinforced by a stronger relationship with the supplier. The new HR services contract has also brought significant benefits with users across the business finding the new service easier to access and more efficient.

As a result of our work NSB were able to secure two new contracts, within their deadlines, making sure their business is well placed to meet their future challenges.
