Scottish Enterprise: Taking Scotland’s £3.1 billion digital media industry to a global market

Scotland’s digital media industry already contributes over £3 billion to the national economy every year and has huge potential for further growth. To capitalise on opportunities in this fast-moving, global market, SMEs need current insight into developments in areas such as mobile, gaming, media and digital technology, right around the world.

As part of Interactive Scotland, a specialist support service for digital SMEs delivered by PA Consulting on behalf of Scottish Enterprise, we launched 360D. This innovative initiative brought market intelligence from key international conferences to Scotland and provided a forum for businesses to discuss the impact of market developments on their plans for growth. The centrepiece for the initiative was a one-day conference at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow, which sold out and attracted 300 delegates and 30 high-calibre speakers. Linked to this were a series of informal ‘studio sessions’ focused on specific sectors, where delegates who had attended international conferences had the opportunity to share what they had learnt with their peers.

The 360D initiative – with its aspiration to ‘make it local, take it global’ – added an important dimension to the on-going support provided to 1000+ businesses through Interactive Scotland. Scotland’s digital media SMEs benefited not just from better market intelligence to shape their technology development and growth planning. They were also part of a supportive, collaborative network intent on taking the best of Scottish creativity and digital expertise to the world.
