British Sugar is part of Associated British Foods, an international food, ingredients and retail group with sales of £9.3 billion. It is the sole producer of sugar from the UK sugar beet crop, sold under the brand name Silver Spoon.
The company needed to consolidate their logistics into a new distribution centre while at the same time absorbing the work of two existing centres. Sales and operations planning was highly reliant on the effective interpretation of data from multiple business systems and many spreadsheets – a process vulnerable to error, and one which required fast improvement for processes and systems to operate efficiently.
Our team took a customer-driven approach to supply – which shifts the focus from cost reduction to creating a flexible, responsive and service-oriented supply chain. This helped to increase the rate of supply by 29% and reduce service-related customer complaints by 91%. In addition, we enabled British Sugar to manage their supply chain more effectively in the long term, implementing forecasting and factory scheduling software to optimise service levels and reduce costs.
