A series of updates to customer data requirements will come into force later this year following the European Commission’s Data Protection Directive. As a result, utilities will need to ensure that their approach to data security covers the risks posed by people, IT systems, the energy supply chain and the active management of customer data.
Should utilities fail to comply, a number of negative impacts could result, including the breach of privacy laws and penalty fines, together with potential damages to reputation. Consequently, it is imperative that energy companies are fully prepared.
In this video, PA’s Darrin Hill, smart energy expert and John Skipper, data privacy expert explain the implications of data protection changes in Europe and suggest the key measures that energy suppliers should take now.
