Technology for sustainability: Additive manufacturing

Additive manufacturing, also called 3D printing, builds objects from the ground up, layer by layer. The technology uses a base set of raw materials to fabricate a diverse range of customised products, all with the same tooling and feedstock.

This brings advantages to both supply chain and product development, primarily by helping to minimise material waste and enable distributed manufacturing.
