Become part of the team
In this role you will focus on helping our clients in the Energy Transition sector accelerate scientific and engineering solutions to market. Our science and design engineering team are working with some of the most pioneering companies globally developing sustainable energy and negative emissions technology. Our focus is on four enabling technology value chains: Carbon Capture, Sustainable Fuels, Electrification and Water. Our work is divided between physical scientific and technology development; helping clients to develop and test the technology, and scientific, technology and innovation advisory; supporting a breadth of investors, developers, industrial and energy clients.
PA employs over 4,000 experts of which 550 sit in our Design, Engineering and Science capabilities. Our Global Innovation Technology Centre near Cambridge is our largest scientific and engineering facility with over 300 applied scientists and design engineers with 11,000 square meters of fully equipped laboratories and workshops. Our applied science capabilities include Chemists, Chemical Engineers, Electrochemists, Physicists and Biologists, our engineering capabilities include Mechanical and Electronics Engineering, Software and Control Systems, Industrial and Product Design, Human Insights and these all link into our broader networks, cyber and digital capabilities.
Joining this team, you will also be part of our broader Energy and Utilities practice with 330 sector experts working across the Water, Energy and Nuclear sub-sectors globally. It is the combination of our scientific and engineering expertise with this broader deep sector expertise that makes us uniquely placed to help our clients to successfully accelerate technology to market.
The candidate should have experience in leading complex science and/or engineering development and advisory services associated with energy transition technology. Candidates will ideally have worked within a consulting environment. Candidates with a bias towards technology consulting sales and business development in the Energy Transition sector are also encouraged to apply.
Candidates may have experience in one or more of the Carbon Capture, Sustainable Fuels, Electrification and Water value chains.

- Advising government policy makers on the energy transition
- Working with investors and developers in the energy system and clean energy transition
- Developing pioneering and innovative physical, digital and analytics technology solutions
- Advising on emerging technologies, IP and roadmap strategies, competition and due diligence drawing on a deep scientific and engineering understanding
- Business and organisational transformation to achieve regulatory performance commitments.
In addition we are extremely active in Sustainability and the Circular Economy more generally with rapidly growing capability that addresses multiple sectors.
Job description
What we’re looking for:
We are seeking an experienced Principle Scientist or Engineer with experience leading multi-disciplinary teams delivering high quality technology development and advisory work in the Energy Transition sector. The person must have consulting and commercial experience either gained through working in a consultancy, or through providing equivalent services within a large organisation.
The role will include:
- Leading medium to large-scale complex technical multi-disciplinary assignments
- Growing, managing and developing a high performing team of energy transition focussed scientists and engineers in our Global Innovation and Technology Centre
- Active involvement in managing client relationships, managing the sales process and supporting engagement with our clients
- Producing thought-provoking pieces to raise the profile of PA in technology innovation in the sector and
- Initiating, leading and winning sales.
Qualifications
You will have a network of senior industry contacts and potential buyers across the sector; ideally in areas that are complementary to our current client base.
Your primary expertise and experience will be as a multi-disciplinary technologist that is energy transition focused.
