Clean energy expert Doug McMahon has returned to PA Consulting (PA), the consultancy that’s bringing ingenuity to life, as a Partner in the Energy and Utilities practice. He will work with US clients as they work toward their energy transition goals, focusing on clean technology, storage, electric vehicles, and other forms of electrification.
Doug has nearly 20 years’ experience solving complex business problems across the electricity generation, transmission and distribution system, and is returning to PA after six-years working in industry. He spent the last year as a Managing Director at ENGIE, one of the largest electricity and gas utilities in the world, driving the creation and growth of their sustainability and decarbonization business. Prior to joining ENGIE, Doug was the VP of Corporate Strategy for the New York Power Authority, where he led efforts to strategically pivot the business to an accelerator of decarbonization in the State of New York. In addition, during his time at the New York Power Authority, Doug also built out two new $250 million start up functions in the areas of eMobility and grid flexibility.
Clients hire PA to anticipate the future, champion innovation, and unlock new potential in energy and utilities markets. In the last four years, PA’s US energy and utilities team advised on the development, purchase, sale, or financing of over $50 billion in clean energy infrastructure and over 30 projects involving the purchase or sale of electric, natural gas, and water utility and district energy businesses while advising regulators, utilities, investors, and other stakeholders on the potential clean energy transition path and associated impacts. PA also launched iPredict™, the world’s first artificially intelligent system for predicting failures in critical underground electricity distribution assets. Last month, the UK Department for Transport appointed PA, alongside the Royal College of Art, to deliver an iconic British electric vehicle charge point design. The design will be unveiled at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in November.
Aris Karcanias, Global Head of PA Consulting’s Energy and Utilities Practice, commented: “We are delighted that Doug has rejoined PA. His arrival coincides with a significant period of growth for both the global industry and our Energy and Utilities practice. Doug’s expertise further validates our position as a leading advisor to companies navigating the complexities of the energy transition, capitalizing on his experience in successfully implementing new business models, developing corporate strategy, and applied innovation.”
Doug McMahon, Energy and Utilities Expert at PA Consulting, said: “I am delighted to be returning to PA as a partner in the US Energy and Utilities practice. I am particularly excited at the prospect of drawing on PA’s inventiveness, practical-based experience, and incredible pool of talent to innovate with our clients as they look to address the risks and opportunities of the energy transition. The collaborative, inclusive, and progressive culture consistently demonstrated by PA is very much aligned with my own values, contributing to a work environment that will enable my colleagues and I to have a marked impact on creating a future low carbon economy for all.”
