He also served various corporate officer roles within the energy sector, including as the EVP and Chief Risk Officer at Calpine Corporation where he managed a multi-billion dollar portfolio of market, credit and operational risk for over 26 gigawatts of electric capacity. From 1999-2007, Gary was Managing Consultant at PA in the energy and utilities practice.
Aris Karcanias, Global Head of Energy and Utilities at PA Consulting, said: “We are very excited to have Gary back on the team. He brings unrivalled hands-on experience working with stranded energy infrastructure assets, specifically when it comes to dealing with complex regulatory constructs and advising on the financial risks associated with different asset and contractual classes. Gary also has a deep understanding of commodity markets and trading, as well as having been involved in some of the largest corporate restructurings in US history – this brings a unique insight to our client base and a practical approach that they expect from PA. Gary is another great hire for our industry-leading and purpose-driven energy and utilities team.”
Gary Germeroth, Financial and Risk Management Expert at PA Consulting, said: “PA is a leader in supporting clients to navigate the challenges associated with the clean energy transition. I am excited to rejoin PA to help solve these challenges stemming from the energy commodity markets, and to help our clients (including investors, producers, and consumers) understand how each market may uniquely transition to incorporate these additional green energy sources from a financial, risk management, and operational perspective. It is great to be back!”
Energy affordability, decarbonization, resiliency, reliability, security, and water scarcity are just some of the challenges facing the Energy and Utilities sector. There’s also a huge opportunity. The rapid scale-up and use of new technology, the digital and clean mobility revolution, and the creation of resilient and interconnected energy supply chains and infrastructure are areas redefining the energy eco-system, and the role of the customer. PA works across the energy value chain to help clients thrive in complex energy markets and establish next generation utilities and technology. PA recently supported US Wind in their commitment to decarbonize the power sector by 2035, helped Vattenfall become the leading European fossil-free energy provider, and worked with Ørsted to build and operate assets more effectively using digital tools to help them lead the green energy transformation.
