Transport is a moving target for hackers
PA’s Justin Lowe, a cyber security expert, is quoted in a special report in the Financial Times on navigating cyber risk. The article explains that transport and travel groups are now very much key targets because of the masses of customer data they hold.
The article goes on to look at operational technology – sensors and rail signals for example – and how transport companies are digitising their operational and IT systems to improve efficiency. Commenting on this, Justin says:
“Operational systems were never designed to be connected to other systems and never had security designed and built into them.”
