Gus Hochschild joins PA Consulting (PA), the consultancy that’s bringing ingenuity to life, as a partner in the Energy & Utilities team. With a focus on energy, energy policy and the UK’s ‘Net Zero Emissions’ agenda, Gus will advise PA’s clients on Government policy and investment opportunities, as companies transition to becoming less carbon intensive and more ESG (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance) compliant.
Gus has provided corporate finance and strategic advice on energy companies and the sector to UK Government Ministers, to help shape energy policy and the UK’s ‘Net Zero Emissions’ agenda. He has long-standing relationships with the CEOs of numerous energy companies and energy funds, with whom he consults on the impact and direction of Government policy and the continued evolution of the energy sector.
Throughout his career, mainly as an equity analyst, at N.M. Rothschild & Sons, BBVA LatInvest and, penultimately, at Mirabaud Securities, Gus has leveraged his contact base, sector knowledge, and financial analytical and valuation skills, to initiate and help win M&A and fund-raising mandates with a value of US$20bn in the developed and emerging markets.
Having forecasted the decline in EU generating margins, Gus joined the UK’s Department of Energy & Climate Change, now the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), to learn about the UK’s sustainability agenda and policy making throughout Whitehall, to better anticipate the future direction of the energy markets.
PA’s energy experts work with businesses to anticipate the future, champion innovation, and unlock new potential in energy and utilities markets. The natural gas, power and renewable sectors have reached an intersection where policy, technology and market structure collide with the need for a clean energy future, Net Zero mandates and the post-COVID-19 economic environment.
With decades of experience working with market investors, policymakers, regulators, utilities and companies on the impacts of short- and long-term uncertainty, PA’s team of experts help companies navigate the way ahead. From leading the transformation to green energy with Ørsted, Denmark’s largest energy producer, to boosting California's use of renewable energy by developing the world's biggest battery with US power company Vistra Energy, PA’s experts provide support and advice amid global uncertainty and change to make resources go further and improve life for everyone.
Lizanne Parminter, PA Consulting’s energy and utilities lead, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have Gus join our Global Energy & Utilities team. He comes with a wealth of experience and insight into all aspects of the energy transition and increasing importance the energy sector will play in achieving net zero emissions. Gus is very highly respected and networked across our client base and will be instrumental in us bringing even more ingenuity to life in the sector.”
Gus Hochschild, energy and utilities expert at PA Consulting, added: “Having covered the energy sector as a City equity analyst and advised the UK Government on energy policy, I am delighted to be working with so many talented colleagues at PA Consulting, to help us and our clients navigate towards a ‘Net Zero Emissions’ market.’”
